Terms of Use

"We", "us" and "The Great Translation Game" mean Language Innovation LLC, which owns and operates thegreattranslationgame.com (the "Site"). "You" means anyone using it. By using the Site you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use it.

1. Your account

One account is for one person. Keep your password to yourself, and let us know if you think someone else has access to your account. You're responsible for what happens under it.

2. What you may do

You may use the Site for your own personal, non-commercial language learning. Please don't:

• access the Site by any means other than the interface we provide, including automated tools or scrapers
• interfere with or disrupt the Site or the servers it runs on
• copy, resell, rent, sublicense or reverse engineer the Site

We may suspend or close accounts that breach these terms.

3. Content you import

The Site is built around importing text you choose. That makes a few things your responsibility:

• You must have the right to use any text you import. Much of what's on the internet is copyrighted, and importing it here doesn't change that.
• Imported text is for your own personal study. Don't use the Site to republish or distribute other people's work.
• Anything you import or write stays yours. We don't claim ownership of it. We store and process it only to provide the Site to you — including sending it to a machine translation provider, as described in our Privacy Policy.
• If you choose to share a challenge with other users, you're making that content visible to them.

We may remove content that we believe infringes someone's rights or breaks these terms.

4. Free to use

The Site is currently free to use. There are no subscriptions, no fees and no payment details held. If we introduce paid features in future we'll set out the terms for them before you're asked to pay anything, and using the free Site will never retroactively cost you money.

5. The Site is provided as-is

We build this carefully but we make no warranties. The Site and everything on it are provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We don't promise the Site will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that machine translations will be accurate — they frequently aren't, and part of the point is that you correct them.

6. Limits on our liability

Use of the Site is at your own risk. To the fullest extent the law allows, we aren't liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential damages, or for lost data or lost profits, arising from your use of or inability to use the Site. Some jurisdictions don't allow these limitations, in which case they may not apply to you.

7. Links to other sites

We link to dictionaries, news sites and other external resources. We don't control them and aren't responsible for their content.

8. Copyright and takedowns

We respond to valid notices under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act and will remove infringing user content. If you believe something on the Site infringes your copyright, send a properly formatted DMCA notice (see 17 U.S.C. § 512) to hello@thegreattranslationgame.com.

9. Ending things

You can stop using the Site at any time, and you can delete your account from your settings or by emailing hello@thegreattranslationgame.com. We may suspend or end your access if you breach these terms.

10. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. We'll change the date at the top, and for significant changes we'll let you know by email. Continuing to use the Site after a change means you accept the updated terms.

11. Severability and governing law

If any part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still applies. These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.

12. Indemnity

What you do on the Site and what you import remain your responsibility. You agree to hold us and our service providers harmless from claims, damages, losses and costs arising from your use of the Site, your breach of these terms, or your infringement of anyone else's rights.
